.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday Night.
Early afternoon satellite imagery shows a H5 shortwave trough
working east through the PacNW and NRN Rockies with a mix of
partly to mostly cloudy skies and isolated rain/snow showers. Best
chances for any light precipitation will remain further north,
generally confined to the CNTRL Mountains and along the Montana
border while everywhere else remains predominantly dry throughout
the day today. As this H5 shortwave departs east over the
Continental Divide tonight, dry conditions will return regionwide
overnight and through much of the day on Veterans Day as a brief
ridge of high pressure builds in overhead. Given predominant SW
flow both today and Monday, above normal temperatures will
continue with highs in the 40s/50s/60s and lows in the 20s/30s.

Situated to our NW in the Gulf of Alaska, a storm-force low
pressure system remains on track to move onshore to British
Columbia and PacNW on Monday which as it does, will drive a cold
front across ERN Idaho Monday night into Tuesday. This will
support a mix of rain and snow showers building in west to east
late Monday into all-day Tuesday with widespread light to moderate
precipitation expected. As quickly as this front enters our
region, it will depart east just as quick with lingering isolated
activity by Tuesday night shifting to our westerly upslope favored
regions along the Wyoming border and in the Sawtooths as mostly
dry conditions return regionwide. Winds will also ramp up along
and behind this cold front as 25-40 kt 700 mb winds aloft shift
overhead. This will support surface winds peaking around 15-30 mph
with gusts to 25-45 mph Monday night into Tuesday, at this time
remaining below Wind Advisory criteria.

Precipitation totals with this late Monday/Tuesday system remain
similar to previous forecasts with around a T-0.25" of QPF/liquid
equivalent in the valleys and 0.10-0.50" in the mountains. Driest
valley locations will be across the Shoshone/Arco/Mud Lake Desert
with highest valley totals across the Upper Snake River Plain
east into Wyoming. With warmer temperatures already in place ahead
of this system and highs on Tuesday above freezing in the mid 30s
to mid 40s, we will see a mix of rain and snow below about 6000
feet. In terms of snow, most valley locations will stand the
chance to see a T-1" with higher totals along the Wyoming border
region in that 1-3" range. Up in the mountains, look for an
elevation dependent 2-6". Plan ahead for winter travel conditions
at times, especially if headed over any mountain passes. MacKay

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through next Sunday.
Wednesday will start out dry but will have rain and snow push
into the central mountains and western Magic Valley during the
morning with snow levels between 5 and 6 thousand feet. Snow will
likely continue through Thursday in the central mountains. A small
chance of over 6 inches at and above pass level but 1 to 3 inches
most likely outcome below 7 thousand feet. The next upper trof
will bring more snow and rain Friday through next weekend with
snow levels reaching valley floors once again Friday night. High
temperatures will be in the 30s mountains and 40s valleys
Wednesday through Friday. It will be much colder next weekend with
grids having highs in the 20s mountains and 30s valleys. Lows
will generally be in the teens and 20s. Main impact will be
periods of snow in the long term with for the most part light
accumulations. GK

&&

.AVIATION...18Z TAFS through 18Z Monday.
A weak upper level system may bring some shower activity near SUN
and have vicinity showers there through about 03Z. Other than
that which will not drop below VFR conditions nothing more than
high and mid level clouds through Monday morning. The next system
will spread showers Monday night through Tuesday mainly at SUN and
DIJ. Could see MVFR conditions there. Expect some windy conditions
Tuesday at BYI, PIH and IDA. The next 24 hours though will have
no impacts. GK

&&

.PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
None.
